What's This?

In late 2005, I decided to pedal across the country on a recumbent tricycle. I set off from Yorktown, Virginia on May 25, 2006, and traveled over 5,000 miles.

That's not quite as impressive as it sounds: only 2,000 of those miles were covered using my leg muscles. To find out more about that, you'll need to read through these archives.

Using a laptop, an EVDO modem, solar panels, and a custom-built Black Box full of mysterious electronics, I wrote about the journey from the road, Live As It Happened.

This was, I thought, about finding America. It turned out to be more of an experiment in psychological endurance within the context of physical challenge.

Which is a fancy way of saying I went out of my mind.
